Boast of the Day

I don’t have a pussycat asleep on my bed these days (soon, maybe), but today I have the next best thing: a pile of books with my name on the cover (under the title).

The book I spent so many months translating last year is coming out in France, on 11 September – as part of the Rentrée littéraire.

Guess how I’m feeling today!

  1. Congratulations!!!!! I guess you are feeling like a real author, that's what I guess. Hope all the hard work seems worth it now.

I like the cover. I bet it sells in the thousands.

  2. Thank you, L. Yes, I am feeling like a real author (it's been a long time since I last experienced that) - and, by putting my name on the cover (instead of hiding it inside or omitting it completely, as so often happens in the UK), the publishers seem to agree that I am the author of that translation.

I'm quite fond of the cover too. And of the French title: it's very clever. But it still won't sell: only books about perfume sell these days.

Re: p.b. sales, well, they sell only up to a certain degree ;-)

  4. Thank you, E. I'm quite chuffed. Being published is a great pleasure.

I'm sure they sell better than literary novels.

  7. Thanks, S! I hope to see your name on the cover of a book very soon. :-)

Thanks, J! I walked away from all that 30 years ago. Mad, eh!

  8. PS. Meant to say that French literary translators won the right to have their names on the covers of books exactly 30 years ago: I was there when it happened and remember well the thrill I got when it happened.

  10. How wonderful! All your readers know just how hard you worked on this book. I hope you get all the credit you deserve for this.
